Lakshmi Rajaram, social worker and daughter of freedom fighter V.V. Tilak Sastry, celebrated Republic Day at her school, Vignesh Hindi Vidyalaya, by holding competitions for women and school students, including differently-abled children.
Justice T.N. Vallinayakam, retired judge, was the chief guest on the occasion.
He hoisted the national flag and distributed prizes to the winners in various competitions.
Office-bearers and members of the Public Vigilance Council, Tamil Nadu Chapter, and the “Thaai-Thanthai Sevai Maiyam’ also took part in the celebrations.
Contests were held for girls and boys in Tamil oration, elocution and quiz. Several women took part in the rangoli competition held on the terrace of Mrs. Lakshmi’s house.
She encouraged the differently-abled children by organising a drawing competition and fancy dress. Some of the children, who were accompanied by their parents, came dressed as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Bharatiyar and Bharat Mata.
All of them were rewarded with prizes for their efforts.
Dr. Ravikumar, president of the vigilance council, presented Mrs. Lakshmi with the ‘Best Social Worker’ Award given by Infospace Educational Academy.
